TADA - Dementia-Friendly Bank - Memory Cinema

The Memory Cinema was conducted by Shin Kong Bank, TADA, Spot-Link Cinema and local dementia associations. These events are open to people with dementia and their family carers and the public across five cities. Six dementia-friendly documentary films were chosen to be screened. Through the process of watching the documentary and the post-screening sharing, it is expected that the audience will have a positive outlook on life and positive attitude on dementia. The public can get free information about dementia in all Shin Kong Bank branches. Everyone is welcome to join the events to learn about dementia and create a dementia-friendly country.

This event aims to encourage the younger generation to spend more time with their parents/grandparents, as well as to promote healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of dementia through physical exercise minimum 150 minutes/week.

Why virtual run/walk? because there are no boundaries in doing physical activity. Anyone can do it anywhere and anytime.

Aside from that, this event also serves as a fundraising activity to support the program of Alzheimer’s Indonesia in improving the quality of life of people with dementia and the caregivers.

We’re inviting the community to join in a conversation about discrimination and dementia. This includes asking everyone to fill out Dementia Australia’s discrimination and dementia survey.  

Dementia Action Week’s headline event will be Discrimination and dementia the health issue of our time, a panel discussion held at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 16 September 10:30am – 1pm. More information can be found here.

Australia - Discrimination and Dementia: The Health Issue of Our Time

‘Dementia Australia’s headline event for Dementia Action Week 2019 will be held at the Sydney Opera House from 10.30am to 1pm on Monday 16 September.

The event will feature a panel discussion with Dementia Australia Ambassador Ita Buttrose AC OBE; The Hon Jeff Kennett AC, former Premier of Victoria and former Chair of Beyond Blue; Shaynna Blaze, interior designer, host of Selling Houses Australia on Foxtel and a judge on the Nine Network’s The Block; and including others with a lived experience of dementia.

The panel discussion will be followed by a screening of a beautiful and moving short film Baba, which tells the story of a day of traumatic events that lead a family caring for a loved one living with dementia to make a tough decision. This will be followed with a Q&A with the film’s director John Fink.

Taipei - Embracing Reality

Taipei City Government and Taipei City Hospital launch this exhibition called “Embracing Reality” for the public in Taiwan during the World Alzheimer's Month on 13-14th September 2019.

Four themes will be presented at this exhibition, aiming to raise public awareness and to concern the care burdens toward dementia. Participants will gain knowledge about delaying deterioration, learn strategies of risk reduction, understand the Mediterranean diet and nutrition supplement, non- pharmacological treatments and safety prevention to maintain the best quality of life for dementia.

In addition, interesting and free DIY activities will be provided in the afternoon, as well as short speeches for visitors to acquire caring information about dementia. Particularly, participants will also get their printed-out photos to memorize the joyful time spent together in our exhibition.

When the public understands the irreversible disease better and offers support with concerns and respect, that the dementia-friendly community will be achieved in reality, leading the patients with dementia to have a better quality of life and embrace more precious memories with their family.

The Carnival Games for Dementia is held first time by the Taipei City Hospital to launch a series of events in World Alzheimer’s Month. Our medical members invite the patients with dementia and their family to join this launch event from 7 branches of the hospital. It’s meaningful and joyful to engage them in some interactive carnival games and group activities, aiming to encourage participants to do daily exercise and interpersonal interaction. Research shows that it’d be the best way to prevent further functional deterioration of dementia.
