Bulgaria - Let’s run away from dementia together

  • South Park (in front of the pigeon monument) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

On 5 October 2019 at 9am in the South Park (in front of the pigeon monument) in Sofia, Civic Association Alzheimer Bulgaria and Foundation Compassion Alzheimer Bulgaria will participate with a common cause in the regular 5km run, organised every Saturday by 5kmrun.

Our message on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day (21 September) is "Health promotion and disease prevention through sport", and the date is followed by another two days dedicated by the international community to the promotion of physical and mental health of the elderly people - the International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and World Mental Health Day (10 October).

Sport has a proven beneficial effect on our mental and physical health. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and playing sports regularly reduces the risks of various forms of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Globally, scientists are still unable to find a cure for the various forms of dementia and Alzheimer's, but prevention can slow or even prevent the disease.

After initial registration on the site http://www.5kmrun.bg/reg_form.php, everybody can participate throughout the year and free of charge (every Saturday) in their free runs in the park.

Run with us on 5 October, so that we Run away from dementia together.

For further information, please contact Compassion Alzheimer Bulgaria at: compassion.alz@abv.bg

  • Place de la Bataille-de-Stalingrad (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This year, France Alzheimer and related diseases will focus its message on inclusiveness and the necessity for all citizens to take into consideration people living with dementia and their caregivers. Their main objective is to raise awareness among society and to dismantle the stigmas around the disease and its consequences. They have launched a national campaign, which will last long after World Alzheimer’s Day 2019, with three main axes:

  • raising awareness and training the major local actors (police, fire departments, etc.), with the help of their nationwide network;

  • broadcasting a unifying symbol of recognition to signal their support for people living with dementia;

  • inviting mayors of every French city to sign their pledge “Alzheimer Caring City” and engage in an inclusive approach.

The Association will also be building its “Village Alzheimer” in the centre of Paris, from 20 to 22 September. This Village enables the organisation to welcome for free the general public and provide them with specific information about the disease, care services, research programs and so on. Their web-radio will be broadcasting all day, along with conferences and workshops presented by experts.
