The Dementia Friends project is a health awareness programme launched by Oman Alzheimer’s Society in 2019 in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society UK. It is an ongoing programme targeting members of the public, however we plan to have more regular activities during World Alzheimer’s Month in areas outside the capital. Participants will be encouraged to become Dementia Friends and select a particular change they are prepared to adopt to help people with dementia.

Oman - 4th Alzheimer’s Month National Symposium

This symposium targets both health care professionals and dementia caregivers. The aim is to raise public awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

This year we will adapt the theme introduced by ADI, which is “Let’s talk about dementia, end the stigma”. The programme will feature a short talk about Alzheimer’s disease and how to identify early symptoms and support patients. Two caregivers will then talk about their experiences of caring for a person with dementia, as well as the challenges they faced and how to overcome them. One of our volunteers with deliver a presentation entitled “Alzheimer’s, what is next“ to highlight the recent advances in dementia care and what can be done to support the patients and their caregivers. We will also show short video about stigma and dementia, asking members of the public what they have in mind when they hear the term “dementia”.

Yemen - KHADIGA's Initiative: Turning Point for Dementia Care in Yemen

The objective of the ceremony is to announce the establishment of Yemen Foundation against ALZ dementia as well as to talk about dementia and raise the awareness on the disease.

Personal invitations have been sent to 50 persons from different backgrounds, such as: caregivers, health workers, Ministry relevant personnel, friends, WHO health cluster, mental health teams and people who have interest in the subject.

The ceremony will include a symposium, coffee beak and networking.  Brochures will be also be made available.

September marks the global World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign to raise awareness and challenge stigma. To commemorate World Alzheimer’s Month, Alzheimer’s Pakistan in collaboration with Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) will organize a Seminar on Alzheimer’s Disease & related Dementias in the FJMU auditorium. The speakers will highlight that Dementia is a global health priority, but progress towards its understanding and treatment in low and middle-income countries including Pakistan has been slow, despite rapidly ageing populations.
